Prešov
 Prešov ist mit fast 92.000 Ew. die drittgrößte Stadt der Slowakei und besitzt eine der ältesten Denkmalzonen (seit 1950) des Landes.
Die Stadt ist von den Slánské Bergen, dem Šariš Hügelland und dem Čergov Gebirge umgeben. Prešov wurde 1247 in einer Urkunde des ungarischen Königs Bela IV. erstmals erwähnt. Der historische Stadtkern ist ein städtisches Denkmalreservat; mit renovierten historischen Baujuwelen. Das Stadtbild wird vom spätgotischen St. Nikolaus Dom (1347) beherrscht, der seit 2008 eine Konkathedrale ist. Im Stadtteil Solivar liegt das nationale Kulturdenkmal Solivar: ein Gebäudekomplex (frühes17. Jh.) zum Abbau und Sieden von Salz - eine technische Rarität von weltweitem Rang. Die ebenso nahe liegenden Dubnické Opalminen sind sogar eine weltweite Besonderheit! Prešov ist der Sitz der Landesverwaltung, der Mittelpunkt des kulturellen, gesellschaftlichen, sportlichen Lebens des Landes und Sitz der Universität Prešov. Prešov ist das naturgegebene Zentrum der in der Slowakei lebenden Ruthenen und Ukrainer. Das nationale Alexander Duchnovič Theater hat hier seinen Sitz. Weitere wichtige kulturelle Einrichtungen: Jonáš Záborský Theater, Landesmuseum, Šariš Galerie, Park der Kultur und Erholung, Sternwarte und Planetarium, Wissenschaftsbibliothek, P. O. Hviezdoslav Bücherei, u. a.

Prešov has almost 92,000 inhabitants and is the third largest town in Slovakia and features one of the oldest urban monument reserves (since 1950) nationwide.
The town is surrounded by the Slánské Mountains, the Šariš Highland and the Čergov mountain range. Prešov was first time mentioned in 1247 in a deed of the Hungarian King Bela IV. The old town is an urban monument reserve, with renovated historic architectural jewels. The town is dominated by the Late-Gothic Cathedral of St. Nicolas (1347); since 2008 it is a Concathedral. In the borough Solivar there is located the national cultural monument Solivar: a complex of early 17th-century buildings which served for the mining and processing of salt, a technical monument unique in Europe. Not further away located is the Dubnické Opal Mine which is matchless worldwide. Prešov is the seat of the district, the very centre of the cultural, social, and sports life of the Šariš land; seat of the University of Prešov. Prešov is the natural centre of the Russinians and Ukrainians living in Slovakia. The national Alexander Duchnovič Theatre is located here. Other important cultural institutions in town: Jonáš Záborský Theatre, Provincial Museum, Šariš Gallery, Park of Culture and Recreation, Observatory and Planetarium, Scientific Library, P. O. Hviezdoslav Library, and others.

Prešov (do 92 000 obyv.) je tretím najväčším mestom Slovenska a patrí medzi najstaršie slovenské mestské pamiatkové rezervácie - od r. 1950.
Mesto je obkolesené Slánskymi vrchmi, Šarišskou vrchovinou a pohorím Čergov. Prvá písomná správa o Prešove je z r. 1247 v listine uhorského kráľa Belu IV. Historické jadro mesta je mestskou pamiatkovou rezerváciou, sú tu zrekonštruované historické skvosty. Dominantou Prešova je neskorogotický Dóm sv. Mikuláša (1347), ktorý je od roku 2008 Konkatedrálou. V mestskej časti Solivar sa nachádza Národná kultúrna pamiatka Solivar - komplex budov na ťažbu a varenie soli zo začiatku 17. stor. a patrí medzi európske technické unikáty. Rovnako blízke Dubnické opálové bane sú raritou svetového významu. Mesto, sídlo Prešovského samosprávneho kraja, je ozajstnou metropolou Šariša na všetkých úsekoch kultúrneho, spoločenského, športového života a sídlom Prešovskej univerzity. Prešov je prirodzeným centrom Rusínov a Ukrajincov žijúcich na Slovensku a sídlom národnostného Divadla Alexandra Duchnoviča a ďalších významných kultúrnych ustanovizní ako sú: Divadlo Jonáša Záborského, Krajské múzeum, Šarišská galéria, Park kultúry a oddychu, Hvezdáreň a planetárium, Vedecká knižnica, Knižnica P. O. Hviezdoslava a pod.
