Zvolen
 The town of Zvolen is the centre of Pohronie, it has a rich history dating back 760 years.
Once a royal town, today Zvolen is a district centre with a vibrant active life. Visitors are greeted by the Zvolen Castle, which dominates the town. It was built as the hunting lodge of King Louis I, the Great of Anjou. Presently, it houses a branch of the Slovak National Gallery. Every year, in the castle grounds the international theatre and opera festival Zvolen Castle Plays takes place. The heart of the town is the SNP Square and the pedestrian area, which is lined by old burgher houses and the church of St. Elisabeth. Of top value worth seeing is the historic and cultural monument Pustý hrad, since 1172 it has been an important centre of the royal comitatus. The castle ruin covers an area of 7.6 ha and belongs to the largest in Europe. In town there is the J. G. Tajovský Theatre, Museum of Forestry and Wood processing, and the Technical University which trains specialists of forestry and wood processing. The municipal swimming bath, the Neresnica swimming bath, and the spas of Kováčova and Sliač offer recreation opportunities in summer. In winter, the ice stadium and the ski and sports resort of Kráľová serve for recreation.

Zvolen, kedysi kráľovské mesto, dnes sídlo okresu s pulzujúcim životom, má vyše 760 ročnú históriu.
Návštevníkov víta svojou dominantou - Zvolenským zámkom, ktorý vznikol ako poľovnícke sídlo kráľa Ľudovíta I. Veľkého z Anjou na spôsob talianskych mestských kastelov. Dnes je na zámku umiestnená expozícia Slovenskej národnej galérie. Srdcom mesta, tak ako v stredoveku, je aj dnes námestie (Námestie SNP), jedno z najväčších v strednej Európe. Po oboch stranách ho lemujú historické meštianske domy. Neopakovateľnou historickou a kultúrnou pamiatkou Zvolena je Pustý hrad, ktorý bol dôležitým centrom kráľovského komitátu už v roku 1172. Rozlohou hradiska 7,6 ha predstihol aj Spišský hrad a radí sa medzi najrozsiahlejšie hrady v Európe. V meste sídli Divadlo J.G. Tajovského, Lesnícke a drevárske múzeum a technická univerzita, ktorá vychováva špecialistov v lesnickom a drevárskom odbore. Centrom letnej rekreácie sú Mestské kúpele, kúpalisko Neresnica i blízke kúpele Kováčová a Sliač. Okolie Zvolena poskytuje bohaté možnosti oddychu i relaxácie, predovšetkým v zimnom stredisku Kráľová. |
Die Stadt Zvolen, das Zentrum von Pohronie, hat eine über 760-jährige reiche Geschichte.
Die frühere Königsstadt ist heute eine Bezirksstadt mit einem pulsierenden Leben. Die Besucher begrüßt das alles beherrschende Schloss Zvolen, das als Jagdschloss von König Ludwig I. dem Großen von Anjou entstand. Heute ist hier eine Außenstelle der Slowakischen Nationalgalerie untergebracht. Im Schlosshof werden jedes Jahr die Zvolener Schlossspiele, ein internationales Theater- und Opernfestival, abgehalten. Das Herz der Stadt ist der SNP Platz mit der Fußgängerzone, gesäumt von alten Bürgerhäusern und der St. Elisabethkirche (14. Jh.). Ein unvergleichbares, historisches und kulturelles Denkmal der Stadt ist die Burgruine Pustý hrad. Sie war bereits 1172 ein bedeutendes Zentrum des königlichen Komitates; mit 7,6 ha ist das Burggelände eines der größten in Europa. In Zvolen befindet sich das J. G. Tajovský Theater, das Forst- und Holzmuseum, die Technische Universität, welche Fachleute für Forstwesen und Holzverarbeitung ausbildet. Sommerliche Erholung bieten das städt. Schwimmbad, das Schwimmbad Neresnica, die Kurorte Kováčova und Sliač. Im Winter kann die Bevölkerung sich im Eisstadion und dem Wintersportort Kráľová erholen. |
